Skinner Vineyards located in the Sierra Foothills, asked us recently to help them name and design a new brand that would appeal to the millennial wine drinkers. They also reflect history of gold mining in their region, specifically their ancestor James Skinner who was a gold miner turned wine maker.
After researching the equipment used in hard rock mining during the gold rush we stumbled upon an image of a vintage DuPont blasting machine. We hung the image on the wall and brainstormed words that could be used to describe it. When the moderator for our naming session asked one of the participants what the device was used for, they replied “to blast something to Smithereens.” The rest they say, is history.
